MSM and the MSM Tribeca Parents Association Scholarship Committee is pleased to provide the following information to families seeking financial aid or assistance for attending the Montessori School of Manhattan Tribeca campus. The criteria and steps for applying and receiving aid/assistance are outlined below.

All financial applications are due by October 21st 2011 (for both Beach St. and Gold St. Campuses)

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

1. Financial Aid or Assistance is available to families whose income or expenses or other special circumstances, though reasonable, are not sufficient to meet the cost of attending the school.

2. Allocation of Financial Aid or Assistance is based solely on financial need, and without regard to race, gender, religion or nationality.

3. Decisions are made by the Parents Association Scholarship Committee without disclosing the families' identifying information.

4. Members of the Parents Association Scholarship Committee who apply for Financial Aid or Assistance for any school year may not participate in, and must recuse themselves from all determinations to be made for that school year.

5. Financial Aid or Assistance may be made available on partial or full basis.

6. Financial Aid or Assistance, if awarded, is made directly to the school and not to the families awarded the aid or assistance.

7. Families must re-apply and re-qualify on an annual basis.

Those families interested in financial aid or assistance should follow the steps outlined below. Once all materials have been received, the application will be reviewed by the Tribeca Parents Association Scholarship Committee to determine whether or not the family meets the criteria for aid/assistance and the amount of the award. All financial aid awards are determined based on demonstrated need and the availability of funds.

Step 1. School Application. When completing the school application for admission or re-enrollment, please check the appropriate box on the form to indicate that you are requesting financial aid.

Step 2. School and Student Services (SSS). Montessori School of Manhattan uses School and Student Services (SSS) to process financial aid applications. SSS is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Families should submit to SSS their application and financial information (the Parents' Financial Statement or PFS) online or in paper. To access the online application, please log on to sss.nais.org. For paper copies, please contact MSM. Returning families and siblings may submit applications for financial aid beginning November 1, 2010. Families applying to MSM for the first time will be notified by MSM of the date after which financial aid applications may be submitted. Paper applications should be submitted directly to SSS at the address provided on the form (and not to MSM or to the Parents Association). Please note that SSS charges a processing fee for all applications.

Step 3. Additional Information. Please submit all additional documents required by SSS. In addition to submitting them to SSS, please mail copies of (i) your most recent personal federal tax return(s), (ii) all business tax returns, (iii) your most recent W-2(s), and (iv) a completed MSM Application Supplement (which will be available after November 1, 2010 either in paper form by contacting MSM or by downloading it below) directly to the MSM Parents Association at PO Box 2016, New York, New York 10013.

The information requested is required of all parents and guardians. In the case of separation or divorce, a separate PFS should be completed, and other materials submitted, by both the custodial and non-custodial parent or guardian.

Step 4. Determining Awards. The determination of the amount of any award is made after consideration by the MSM Tribeca Parents Association Scholarship Committee of all information submitted, including the recommendations calculated by the SSS, and after all admissions decisions have been made by MSM. The information provided by families is kept confidential. The Scholarship Committee reviews all materials and makes all decisions without any knowledge of applicant identity.

The deadline for submission of all financial aid materials (other than W-2s for 2010) for returning MSM Beach Street students and siblings for the 2010-2011 school year is Friday, December 3, 2010.

Families applying to MSM for the first time will be notified by MSM of the date after which financial aid materials (other than W-2s for 2010) for new applicant families for the 2010-2011 school year may be submitted. Once notified of such date, all materials must be submitted by Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

W-2s for 2009 for all applicant families should be submitted as soon as they are available and, in any event, by February 1, 2011.

The Scholarship Committee may accept applications during an academic year in cases of extreme hardship. Such applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

An application will not be considered by the Scholarship Committee until all materials have been submitted.

If you have any questions about the program or need assistance with the application process, please contact the Parents Association at msmpa.tribeca@gmail.com or contact Ms. Gauthier.

This program is made possible by the generous donations of MSM and the parents of the MSM Beach St. Campus.

The Parents Association Scholarship Committee reserves the right to change the qualifying criteria as appropriate from time to time.
